Divorce & Parenting Services
Each serves a different purposes and is intentionally kept distinct.
Parenting Assessment Work
Parenting assessment work is focused on understanding how a child or children are functioning within their family environment during times of conflict or change. This work is evaluative and time-limited. Information is gathered from multiple sources and considered in context to describe what is present and how it may be affecting the child or children. Parenting assessments do not provide therapy, guidance, or advocacy. Their purpose is to offer a clear, neutral understanding to support informed decision-making.
Voice of the Child Work
Voice of the Child work is centred on understanding a child’s perspective in a developmentally appropriate and contained manner. Children are not asked to make decisions or choose between parents. The role is to listen carefully, interpret what is shared within context, and communicate the child’s experience responsibly. This work is not therapeutic and is not intended to resolve conflict, but to ensure that a child’s voice is understood without placing responsibility on the child.
Consultation Work
Consultation work provides a neutral, non-therapeutic space for parents or professionals to better understand child-focused issues related to separation, conflict, or parenting dynamics. This work is informational and reflective in nature. It does not involve advocacy, legal advice, or preparation for court. The purpose of consultation is to support understanding, clarify concerns, and explore options within appropriate professional boundaries.
Counselling & Therapeutic Work
Counselling and therapeutic work serves a different purpose. It is supportive, relational, and focused on helping children, individuals, or families navigate emotional distress, transitions, and change. This work unfolds over time and is guided by the client’s goals. The therapeutic relationship is central, providing space for reflection, emotional processing, and the development of coping strategies that support well-being.
Roles & Boundaries
Parenting assessment and Voice of the Child work are evaluative and neutral in nature, while counselling and therapeutic work are supportive and change-oriented. Maintaining clear boundaries between these roles protects the integrity of each process and ensures that children and families are engaged in work that is appropriate to the purpose at hand.
